The United States has acknowledged the downing of its drones over Yemeni airspace—an admission that highlights the growing effectiveness of Sana’a’s air defenses and the mounting cost of ongoing military escalation.
Two U.S. officials revealed to Fox News on Wednesday that Sana’a forces have managed to shoot down seven American MQ-9 Reaper drones since March 3, as part of their response to U.S. military escalation in the Red Sea and Yemeni skies.
The officials noted that six of these drones were downed after the launch of U.S. Central Command airstrikes on Yemen in mid-March, stressing that these sustained losses—despite over forty days of operations—underscore Sana’a’s ability to inflict tangible damage on some of the most expensive assets in the U.S. arsenal.
These statements reinforce recent American reports highlighting the heavy financial toll of the conflict, with estimated U.S. losses surpassing $1 billion in just one month.
These developments come amid earlier announcements by Sana’a forces that they have shot down 22 drones as part of their military campaign dubbed “The Promised Conquest and Holy Jihad,” in support of the Palestinian cause and in opposition to the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
