Israel is experiencing widespread confusion following the crash of a drone launched from Yemen that directly hit Ramon Airport in the city of Eilat, leading to the closure of the southern airspace to aircraft traffic, according to Israel’s Channel 14.
Channel 12 reported this afternoon that the Israeli army had successfully intercepted three drones launched from Yemen today, while a fourth managed to reach the vicinity of Ramon Airport and hit its target.
In the same context, the official broadcasting authority reported that injuries occurred due to the drone’s fall in the Negev region in southern Israel, noting that two people were wounded, including a man who was described as being in moderate condition.
The Israeli army, for its part, announced that it had opened an investigation into the incident, explaining that the drone entered the airspace and reached its target without any sirens being activated or interception taking place. Army Radio admitted that the drone was not detected from the moment of its launch until impact.
Army Radio also revealed that since the assassination of several Ansar Allah leaders in Sanaa, Yemen has launched eight ballistic missiles and seven drones toward Israel, indicating an escalation in the pace of attacks.
Israeli emergency services confirmed that they treated a man who sustained moderate injuries to his limbs as a result of the drone crashing inside the airport.
While the army continues its investigation, the airspace in southern Israel remains closed amid growing concern over potential new attacks targeting airports and strategic facilities.
