Yemeni Governorates Declare Rebellion: Where is the Way Out?

NYN | News

Protests are escalating in several governorates under the control of the Presidential Leadership Council.

Today, demonstrations in Taiz, Aden, Lahj, Abyan, and Dhaleh have been increasing, expressing intense public anger towards the Aden government and the coalition countries, amid an ongoing and unprecedented economic and living crisis.

Amid growing demands for basic citizens’ rights, these protests are facing violent crackdowns carried out by factions of the Southern Transitional Council, supported by the UAE, in Aden, further intensifying tensions.

In Taiz city, educational unions and civil society groups organized protest marches demanding the payment of delayed salaries for teachers and employees, as well as urgent solutions to stop the severe collapse of the national currency, which has led to skyrocketing prices.

Protesters affirmed that the failures of the Presidential Council and its government in addressing the economic crises are driving the country toward the abyss of chaos, holding them fully responsible for the deteriorating living conditions.

The protests are not limited to Taiz and Aden but have spread to other southern governorates, where the masses are demanding improvements in basic services and an end to the economic collapse that has exhausted citizens. However, the internationally recognized Yemeni government continues its policy of ignoring popular demands, fueling discontent and threatening to ignite a broader wave of protests that may be difficult to contain.

In light of this situation, the country seems on the brink of explosion, with no signs of a radical solution, and the situation grows more complicated with each passing day that the Aden government fails to respond to the desperate voices of the people.
