Zionist Recognition of “Somaliland” Paves the Way for an Advanced Military Base Near Bab al-Mandab

A Hebrew report reveals a strategic orientation to use “Somaliland” as an intelligence and military platform to confront Sanaa’s operations in the Red Sea

A report by the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz has revealed a new strategic orientation within the government of the Zionist occupation entity toward recognizing the so-called “Republic of Somaliland” as a political step that would pave the way for using its territory as an advanced military operations base in the Horn of Africa.

A Potential Base to Confront Sanaa

According to the report, this orientation comes amid attempts by the occupation entity to contain the escalating threats posed by Sanaa’s forces to shipping linked to it in the Red Sea. These threats have disrupted global supply chains and forced vessels to reroute around the Cape of Good Hope, driving shipping and insurance costs to unprecedented levels, in parallel with the war of genocide in Gaza.

Complex Geopolitical Calculations

The report noted that Tel Aviv is carefully weighing the risks and benefits of a military presence in “Somaliland,” given the geopolitical complexities of the Horn of Africa and the sensitivities with Somalia’s government in Mogadishu, which rejects any recognition of the breakaway region.

Conditional Agreements and Potential Escalation

The report suggested that any military decision would likely be contingent upon formal agreements with the government in Hargeisa, along with a comprehensive assessment of the likelihood of direct military escalation with Sanaa from a new African front and the regional repercussions that could ensue.

The Horn of Africa on a Hot Plate

The report warned that any direct Zionist intervention could exacerbate tensions in a region already plagued by instability and terrorism, turning the Horn of Africa into an advanced base used against the region as a whole.

Strategic Location and Advanced Intelligence

Despite the volatile landscape, these indicators—according to Haaretz—underscore the occupation entity’s pursuit of military and geographic alternatives far from its immediate borders to break the maritime blockade imposed on it. “Somaliland,” overlooking the Gulf of Aden and close to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, is viewed as an ideal option for establishing intelligence monitoring stations or drone launch bases to track and target maritime threats before they reach the depths of the Red Sea.
