The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council revealed what it described as a “heavy” toll resulting from Saudi airstrikes that targeted its forces in Hadramawt governorate in eastern Yemen, holding Riyadh responsible for civilian casualties and widespread damage to public and private property.
200 Airstrikes on Wadi Hadramawt
In a statement, the council said that Saudi aircraft carried out nearly 200 airstrikes targeting positions affiliated with its forces in Wadi Hadramawt, marking an unprecedented escalation between the two sides within the governorate.
Targeting of Civilian Homes and Vehicles
The statement noted that the strikes were not limited to military sites, but also hit civilian homes and vehicles, leading to deaths and injuries among residents, in addition to the destruction of parts of the infrastructure in several areas of the valley.
Call for Urgent International Action
The Southern Transitional Council called on regional and international public opinion, as well as human rights and humanitarian organizations, to take a clear and firm stance that would lead to an immediate halt to the airstrikes and ensure the protection of civilians, warning of the consequences of continued escalation for the humanitarian and security situation in Hadramawt.
