Hebrew Newspaper: Trump Trapped in the “Impossible”.. Iran War Turns His Dreams into a Political Nightmare

Haaretz: The U.S. president faces the most dangerous moment of his career amid military failure and a war of attrition threatening his political future.

The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump is experiencing one of the most complex and dangerous phases of his political career after finding himself forced to pay the full price for what the paper described as his mistaken decisions in confronting Iran, amid diminishing chances of achieving any military or political victory that could be marketed domestically.

The newspaper stated that Trump’s hopes of securing a “symbolic victory” against Tehran had evaporated in light of developments on the ground, leaving him with two equally costly options: either accept an agreement involving painful concessions or become dragged into a prolonged war of attrition that could turn into a heavy burden on the U.S. administration and lead to the collapse of his political popularity.

Failure of the Military Gamble

The newspaper explained that Trump, who throughout his career as a businessman and real estate developer was accustomed to reshaping realities in his favor and maneuvering around laws and agreements, is now facing an opponent with a high ability to maneuver and resist American pressure and dictates. This, according to the report, has left him trapped in an open-ended conflict with no clear horizon after months of unsuccessful attempts to subdue Iran militarily or politically.

The report added that the U.S. administration has failed to achieve its declared objectives, while developments on the ground in the region — particularly in the Strait of Hormuz — have exposed the limits of American power and its ability to impose traditional deterrence equations.

Fears of Repeating the Iraq and Afghanistan Scenario

According to the newspaper, Trump is caught in a contradiction between his desire to portray himself as a leader who “changed the face of the world” and his growing fears of becoming another version of former U.S. President George W. Bush, whose name became associated with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the long-term military and political exhaustion they caused.

Haaretz noted that Trump’s long-standing reliance on propaganda-style rhetoric and exaggeration of achievements is no longer sufficient to manage a complex international conflict of the scale of the current confrontation with Iran. The paper stressed that realities on the ground have imposed new equations that go beyond personal calculations and political desires within the White House.

Reshaping the Balance of Deterrence

The newspaper concluded its report by emphasizing that the escalating confrontation in the region, especially in the Strait of Hormuz, has reshaped the concept of regional deterrence and revealed that U.S. military power is no longer capable of imposing its will in the traditional manner amid rising challenges and the changing nature of international conflicts.
