Israeli media outlets have expressed growing concern over the announcement by Sana’a forces that they have begun implementing a ban on Israeli shipping in the Red Sea and the closure of the Bab al-Mandab Strait to vessels linked to Israel, in a move that Hebrew media circles described as a new escalation in the course of the regional confrontation.
The Jerusalem Post reported that the military spokesperson for Sana’a forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced that the ban on Israeli maritime navigation had officially entered into force, emphasizing that any vessel or target linked to Israel would be subject to attack and warning that any escalation would be met with a corresponding response.
Coinciding with Missile Attacks
The newspaper noted that the announcement came alongside Sana’a forces’ claim of responsibility for a series of missile attacks directed toward the occupied Palestinian territories. Saree stated that these operations were being carried out within the framework of the “Unity of Fronts” strategy and in response to ongoing developments in Lebanon, Iran, and the Gaza Strip.
Air-Raid Sirens Sound Across Wide Areas
According to Hebrew media reports, air-raid sirens sounded across large areas of central Israel following the launch of a missile from Yemen. Additional warning alerts reportedly followed as the attacks continued, prompting thousands of settlers to seek shelter in various locations.
Increasing Security Challenges
The newspaper argued that the latest developments reflect the expanding scope of the regional confrontation and the growing number of fronts facing Israel. It considered the involvement of Sana’a forces in the recent military operations to be an additional security challenge for Israel’s military establishment amid escalating tensions across the region.
This development comes at a time when the region is witnessing a period of reciprocal escalation, amid concerns over potential security and economic repercussions that could affect international shipping through one of the world’s most strategically important maritime corridors.
