A Hebrew Newspaper Plays Down the Usefulness of the Strategic Bet
The Hebrew newspaper The Jerusalem Post warned against exaggeration by the political and military establishments of the occupation entity regarding the strategic importance of the secessionist “Somaliland” region and its port, stressing that this bet could turn into a security burden rather than a gain.
Ansar Allah’s Capabilities Unaffected by Air Campaigns
In an analytical article, the newspaper argued that the capabilities of the Ansar Allah movement in the Red Sea have not diminished despite Israeli and American airstrike campaigns, nor even after a full decade of aerial and ground warfare waged by the Saudi–Emirati coalition and its local allies inside Yemen.
A Potential Base Without Decisive Impact
According to the analysis, establishing a naval or air base affiliated with the occupation in Somaliland would not bring about a shift in the balance of power in the Red Sea, nor would it provide practical solutions to what Tel Aviv describes as Houthi threats. On the contrary, such a base could place itself “within stone’s throw” of Houthi capabilities.
Absence of Ground Decisiveness and Structural Weaknesses
The newspaper noted that airstrikes alone have historically failed to defeat the Houthis, pointing out that the secessionist Somali region lacks effective ground forces capable of supporting any decisive campaign, which limits the usefulness of any potential military deployment.
Conclusion of the Warning
The Jerusalem Post concluded that overreliance on Somaliland as a strategic lever could deepen security risks without achieving the declared objectives of securing maritime navigation or curbing Houthi influence in the Red Sea.
