The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor condemned the U.S. airstrikes that targeted Ras Issa Port in Al-Hodeidah Governorate, describing them as an unlawful use of force that amounts to a war crime, and called for an immediate international investigation and legal accountability for those involved.
In a statement, the Monitor noted that the nature of the targeted site — being a vital civilian facility — along with the high number of civilian casualties, raises serious suspicions of a grave violation of international humanitarian law.
The statement sharply criticized the U.S. forces’ failure to take any precautionary measures to protect civilians, stressing that no warnings were issued to the port administration, its workers, or any related entities prior to carrying out the airstrike.
The Monitor considered the official U.S. justifications to be a blatant disregard for the principles of international humanitarian law, particularly in terms of the clear breaches of the principles of distinction, proportionality, and military necessity.
It added that the use of armed force by the United States in this context, without resorting to any diplomatic channels or de-escalation mechanisms, reflects a disregard for international obligations and constitutes dangerous behavior that threatens peace and stability.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor called on the relevant international bodies to open an urgent and independent investigation into the attack, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure that the victims and their families receive justice and appropriate compensation.
