Washington’s targeting of a popular market in a residential neighborhood in the center of the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, has sparked widespread outrage among the Yemeni public, amid growing warnings of an escalating humanitarian crisis and continued attacks on civilians in blatant violation of international law.
The Ministry of Health in Sana’a reported early Monday that the death toll from the U.S. strike on the Furwah Market in the Shu’ub District had risen to 42 casualties, including 12 martyrs and 30 injured, in an initial toll expected to increase as rescue and search operations continue under the rubble.
The ministry’s statement confirmed that the airstrike directly targeted the Furwah popular market during peak hours, resulting in a horrific massacre of civilians, including women and children, in a flagrant violation of international treaties and laws prohibiting attacks on civilian objects.
The Ministry of Health strongly condemned the blatant U.S. aggression, warning that the continued targeting of residential neighborhoods and civilian markets threatens to further expand the humanitarian disaster that the Yemeni people have been suffering from for years.
This massacre comes within the context of the escalating U.S. aerial aggression against Yemeni cities, in clear disregard for the international community, amid what Sana’a described as a shameful and enabling silence toward ongoing war crimes.
