A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Gulf of Aden early Saturday morning, without causing any damage or being felt by residents.
The earthquake monitoring site Earthquakelist reported that the tremor occurred 138 kilometers southeast of the city of Aden, at 6:49 AM (GMT+3).
The Gulf of Aden is part of an active seismic zone caused by tectonic plate movements, making it prone to frequent earthquakes, according to geology experts.
In this context, specialists have warned of the possibility of a major earthquake that could impact East African countries and the Arabian Peninsula, including Yemen, noting that hydrological pressures resulting from large projects such as the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) may contribute to increased seismic activity in the region.
