Rebellion in Washington: U.S. Lawmakers Confront Trump and Block Him from Igniting a War with Iran

NYN | News

Amid the rapidly escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, U.S. lawmakers from both parties have begun taking action to prevent any attempt by the American administration to become directly involved in the conflict militarily.

Leading this initiative is Republican Representative Thomas Massie, who announced his intention to introduce a bill aimed at preventing U.S. involvement in the war. He stressed that the decision to use military force should remain with Congress, not the executive branch.

“This is not our war… but even if it were, the Constitution clearly states that Congress is the body responsible for making such decisions,” Massie said in a post on the platform X on Tuesday morning.

Massie added that he is in the process of submitting a bipartisan War Powers resolution to ensure that American troops are not drawn into another conflict in the Middle East without explicit legislative approval.

He continued: “Tomorrow, I will introduce a bipartisan War Powers bill to prevent our involvement, and I urge every member of Congress to support this legislation.”

Similarly, Senator Bernie Sanders announced a legislative plan aimed at preventing President Donald Trump from engaging in an “unauthorized war” against Iran, warning of the potential humanitarian and economic consequences of such a decision.

In an official statement, Sanders said: “Another war in the Middle East could cost countless lives, waste trillions of dollars, and lead to more conflict and instability in the region.”

This movement within Congress reflects the growing concern in Washington about the possibility of the U.S. administration rushing to provide direct support to Israel in its war with Iran, at a time when the consequences of previous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue to cast a long shadow over American foreign policy.

These statements come as international reports point to a rising risk of a full-scale regional confrontation.
