American Military Website: Ignoring Ansar Allah Undermines Any U.S. Strategy in the Region

Analysis by Breaking Defense Confirms Sana’a Has Become an Independent Actor in Regional Security Equations After the Gaza Support Battle

NYN | Reports and Analyses

An analysis published by the military affairs website Breaking Defense affirmed that any American calculations aimed at reshaping the region’s security landscape will not succeed unless they take into account the growing role of the Houthis as an independent and influential actor.

Washington Focuses on Iran While Ignoring Sana’a

The analysis explained that Washington continues to concentrate on what it considers the “Iranian threat,” while overlooking the force that has imposed new equations in the Red Sea and threatened freedom of navigation — including U.S. naval vessels and even aircraft carriers.

It noted that the American approach of treating Ansar Allah as merely a local faction no longer reflects realities on the ground, as the group has moved beyond that framework to become an active element in both regional and international security dynamics.

Strategic Shift After October 7

The report pointed out that Ansar Allah’s engagement in the battle to support Gaza following the events of October 7, 2023, marked a turning point. The group succeeded in expanding its sphere of influence beyond Yemen’s geography, asserting its presence in the Red Sea and surrounding waters.

According to the analysis, this shift reshaped the priorities of international powers and placed Sana’a at the center of any future arrangements concerning maritime security, energy routes, and regional balances.

Military Capabilities Based on Domestic Production

The website highlighted that the distinctiveness of Sana’a’s military capabilities stems from its reliance on a domestic production system that includes the manufacturing and assembly of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, as well as the production of aircraft structures, preparation of warheads, and launch infrastructure inside Yemen.

It considered that this development has granted the group operational autonomy and reduced the impact of conventional military pressure against it.

A Key Player in Any Upcoming Settlement

The analysis concluded that whether the United States chooses to address its disputes with Iran through military means or via negotiations, it will find itself compelled to deal with the Houthis as an independent party that cannot be bypassed in any forthcoming security or political arrangements in the region.

It emphasized that ignoring this reality could disrupt any future American strategy in the Middle East.
