Preemptive Move to Control the Bab al-Mandeb Strait

NYN | News

The UAE continues its suspicious maneuvers in strategic Yemeni regions, amid growing coordination with Israel that reveals a shared agenda aimed at dominating international maritime routes.

The latest of these moves involves the completion of a massive military airport in the Dhubab District of Taiz Governorate, adjacent to the Bab al-Mandeb Strait—one of the world’s most vital maritime chokepoints.

According to informed media sources, the new airport’s runway measures 2.49 kilometers in length and 130 meters in width, and it has been fully planned and equipped to receive military aircraft.

Field observations and images have confirmed the landing of military planes that took off from Zayed Military Base in Abu Dhabi, reinforcing indications that the airport has entered its operational phase.

This development is part of a series of military projects the UAE is implementing along Yemen’s coasts and islands. On the islands of Abd al-Kuri and Samhah, military bases and airstrips are being constructed, reportedly under direct coordination with the Israeli entity, as part of a strategy to secure joint strategic influence over the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Field sources have not ruled out the possibility that the airport could be used to facilitate U.S. military operations targeting areas controlled by the Sanaa-based government, given the convergence of Emirati, American, and Israeli interests in containing Washington’s regional adversaries.

These actions are facing increasing condemnation from Yemeni national forces, who view them as a blatant violation of Yemeni sovereignty. They argue that Abu Dhabi is exploiting Yemeni territory to serve regional and international agendas that have nothing to do with the interests of the Yemeni people.
