Israeli media outlets reported on Wednesday growing concern within the security and political circles of the Israeli establishment over what they described as a strategic failure in confronting Iran and Hezbollah. According to these reports, recent military operations have failed to achieve their declared objectives of deterring adversaries or altering the balance of power in the region.

Security Arrogance Deepens the Crisis

The newspaper Israel Hayom reported that the security establishment had fallen victim to miscalculations and unrealistic assumptions that contributed to the worsening security situation. It argued that a sense of “arrogance” that prevailed within decision-making circles had produced counterproductive outcomes and increased Israel’s dependence on the United States in addressing regional challenges.

Warnings of a Prolonged War of Attrition

For its part, Maariv stated that subduing Iran or Hezbollah represents an extremely complex challenge. The newspaper noted that the resilience and endurance demonstrated by both parties could push Israel into an open-ended and prolonged war of attrition without securing decisive strategic gains.

The paper added that recent experiences have shown Iran and Hezbollah to be adversaries with a high capacity for adaptation and resistance, making it exceptionally difficult to confront them through conventional methods.

Erosion of Deterrence and the “Unity of Fronts”

In the same context, Haaretz quoted Israeli security sources as saying that Iran continues to gradually impose what it described as the “unity of fronts” equation, posing an increasing challenge to Israel’s military freedom of action and contributing to the erosion of the deterrence capability upon which Israel has relied in recent years.

These pessimistic assessments reflect growing concern within Israeli circles regarding the ability of Iran and its allies to impose new dynamics on the regional conflict, amid increasing questions about the effectiveness of military options in achieving strategic objectives.
