The governorate of Al-Hodeidah witnessed heavy rainfall accompanied by strong thunderstorms on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of 11 citizens and injuries to 7 others.
According to local sources, a lightning strike hit a mosque in the village of Mahal Dakhan, northeast of Al-Qanawis District, killing three people and leaving four others injured but alive. In another incident, a child and a girl were killed by lightning in Beit Al-Faqih, south of Al-Hodeidah.
Elsewhere, one person died in Deir Al-Makeen, and three others were injured and transported to Al-Hodeidah city for treatment after being struck by lightning. A 10-year-old child also lost his life in Deir Al-Tabeesh village, part of Al-Qanawis District.
In other areas, a person was killed in the Al-Afrad area, Rabat village, while a young man from Al-Zuhrah District lost his life after being struck by lightning while working on his father’s farm in the Ruba’ Al-Faranti area, north of Deir Al-Hujrah.
Another fatality occurred in Majrib, Al-Zaidiyah, where a man was killed while cutting Salam trees near the Kawthar Desalination Project. Additionally, a 10-year-old boy was killed by lightning in Tarf Bani Maqbool, east of Beit Al-Faqih.
These days, Al-Hodeidah is experiencing unprecedented and intense thunderstorms, raising alarms about the ongoing threat of lightning strikes in various regions. Authorities and residents alike are urging the public to exercise caution, avoid open spaces during rainstorms, and stay safe amid the worsening weather conditions.
