On Monday, Sana’a government forces announced the downing of a new U.S. (MQ-9) drone over Saada province, marking the eleventh drone they have shot down since joining the battle to support Gaza.
In a televised statement, the military spokesperson for Sana’a forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said: “The air defenses of the armed forces successfully shot down a U.S. (MQ-9) drone while it was carrying out hostile missions over Saada province.”
Saree explained that “this is the eleventh drone of this type that our air defenses have successfully shot down during this battle.”
He added: “Earlier, the Israeli enemy, with U.S. support, launched 17 airstrikes on several civilian facilities in Hodeidah province, including the port and the power station, resulting in the deaths of five citizens and the wounding of 57 others as the final toll.”
Saree affirmed that “this criminal aggression will not deter the Yemeni people and their armed forces from fulfilling their religious, humanitarian, and moral duty towards the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples.”
He stressed that “the Israeli crime of aggression on Hodeidah will be met with an escalation in military operations against this criminal enemy in the coming period.”
Activists on social media circulated a video early Monday showing the moment the U.S. (MQ-9) drone was shot down over Saada province.
It’s worth noting that this is the fourth drone Sana’a forces have shot down in September 2024 and the eleventh since joining the battle in support of Gaza.
