U.S. Congressman: War on Iran Has Become a Strategic Defeat for Washington and Strengthened Tehran’s Position

Seth Moulton Says Efforts to Weaken Iran or Change Its Regime Have Failed, Urges Trump Administration to End Military Involvement and Exit the War

U.S. Congressman and former U.S. Marine Corps officer Seth Moulton has sharply criticized the course of the war against Iran, arguing that its outcome represents a major failure for the U.S. administration and a setback for Washington’s strategic interests in the Middle East.

War Failed to Achieve Its Stated Objectives

Moulton stated that the war was initially presented as an effort to weaken Iran or encourage regime change. However, military and political developments have produced the exact opposite result, he said, with Tehran emerging from the confrontation possessing greater influence and stronger regional leverage.

He added that current indicators suggest Iran has strengthened its position rather than been weakened, raising serious questions within U.S. political circles about the value of continuing military operations and their growing costs.

Direct Criticism of Trump

The congressman described the war as a “crushing defeat” for President Donald Trump, arguing that it also constitutes a strategic defeat for the United States following its failure to achieve the objectives announced at the outset of the conflict.

He stressed that the military and political outcomes of the war have not served American interests. Instead, they have contributed to a more complex regional landscape and increased the challenges facing Washington in the Middle East.

Calls to End the War

Moulton urged the U.S. administration to end its military involvement as quickly as possible, emphasizing that the best course of action is to halt the escalation and withdraw from the war rather than continue down a path that increases losses and deepens political and economic burdens.

He argued that ending military operations has become necessary to prevent further negative consequences for the United States and its allies in the region.

Growing Debate Within the United States

These remarks come amid increasing debate within U.S. political institutions regarding the costs of the war with Iran and its military and economic consequences. At the same time, there are growing calls to pursue political and diplomatic solutions to the crisis instead of continuing military escalation.
