Russia: West’s Airstrikes on Yemen Unjustified

The Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, stated that the airstrikes by the Western coalition on Yemen are in violation of the UN Charter and are unjustified, further escalating the situation in the region.

During a UN Security Council meeting on Monday, Nebenzya said, “The already complex situation has become even more complicated due to the unjustified strikes carried out by the Western coalition against the sovereign territory of Yemen, in violation of the UN Charter.”

He added that “such actions, like the ongoing militarization of the waters around Yemen, do not help to ensure the security of navigation in the Red Sea, but rather increase the level of escalation.”

Continuing, Nebenzya said, “The failed experience of the coalition formed by the United States clearly proves that the use of force against Yemen will not improve the situation in the Red Sea. A comprehensive approach that takes into account all aspects of the situation in the region is necessary.”

The Russian envoy expressed “disappointment at the efforts of some of our Western colleagues to exploit the crisis in Yemen to serve their own selfish geopolitical interests.”

He explained that the United States has been delivering the weapons and ammunition it seized in areas near Yemen to Ukraine.

The Russian representative condemned these actions by the United States.

It is worth noting that the United States and its allies announced the launch of “Operation Prosperity Guard” in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to ensure the security of maritime navigation, in response to the Houthis’ targeting of commercial ships that they claimed were linked to Israel since last November, following the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip, which the Houthis declared their “solidarity” with.
