The US military announced on Wednesday the destruction of 4 drones in areas under the control of the Sanaa government forces, according to a statement from the Central Command.
The command explained that “this operation aims to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters more secure for US, coalition and commercial ships. This operation came in response to the threats posed by the Houthi drones.”
The US military’s announcement of the destruction of the drones comes as the Sanaa government forces, through their spokesperson Yahya Saree, announced the targeting of the US destroyer Mason in the Red Sea with naval missiles, “and accurately hitting it.”
Saree added that another ship was attacked with missiles and drones after “breaching a ban on ships” heading to Israel.
The United States has not issued any comment on this attack.
For his part, the president of the Supreme Political Council – the de facto authority in Sanaa, Mahdi Al-Mashat, warned of taking decisive, bold and difficult measures if the Israeli aggression on Gaza continues, indicating that “the fourth stage of escalation will begin with qualitative operations.”
Since the end of last year, the Sanaa government forces have been targeting Israeli and related ships in the Red and Arab Seas, before announcing the expansion of their operations to part of the Indian Ocean.
The Sanaa forces say their operations against “Israel” will continue until the latter stops the genocide war in Gaza and lifts the siege.
In response, the US and Britain launched air strikes on Yemen, with the Sanaa government forces declaring that their operations will include targeting US and British commercial and military ships in response to what they called the “US-British aggression.”
On May 3rd, the Sanaa government forces, through their spokesperson Yahya Saree, announced the entry of what they called the “fourth stage of escalation,” and that they will target Israeli or Israel-related ships in the Mediterranean Sea if the latter proceeds with the invasion of Rafah.
The European Union announced on February 19, 2024 the launch of a military operation called “Aspides” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced the launch of an operation called “Prosperity Guard,” both of which aim to confront the attacks launched by the Sanaa government forces against “Israel.”
