The spokesman for the Sanaa government forces, Yahya Sarie, announced on Tuesday the downing of the fifth American MQ9 drone since the start of their “Support for Palestine” operations.
Sarie said in a statement that the American drone was shot down with a locally-produced surface-to-air missile “while carrying out a hostile mission in the airspace of Al-Bayda governorate”, just days after downing a drone of the same type in the airspace of Marib governorate in northeastern Yemen.
He mentioned that the total number of drones of this type that have been downed during the “Promised Conquest and the Holy Jihad” battle has reached 5 aircraft.
He affirmed “the continuation of developing our defensive capabilities to confront the American-British aggression and in victory for the oppressed Palestinian people”.
The Military Media affiliated with the Ministry of Defense in the Sanaa government published footage of the downing of the American “MQ9” drone in Al-Bayda governorate.

The Sanaa government forces have been targeting Israeli and related ships in the Red Sea and the Arab Gulf since the end of last year, before announcing the expansion of their operations to part of the Indian Ocean.
They had previously announced the start of the implementation of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “until the Mediterranean Sea” in order to support the Palestinians in Gaza.
The Sanaa forces say their operations against “Israel” will continue until the latter stops the genocide war in Gaza and lifts the siege.
In response, the United States and Britain launched airstrikes on Yemen, and the Sanaa government forces announced that their operations will include targeting American and British commercial and military ships in response to what they called the “American-British aggression”.
The European Union announced on February 19, 2024 the launch of a military operation called “Aspis” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced the launch of an operation called “Prosperity Guard”, both aiming to confront the attacks carried out by the Sanaa government forces against “Israel”.
