On Wednesday, the Sanaa government forces released footage of an American MQ-9 drone being shot down while it was carrying out hostile missions in the skies over Marib province.
The spokesperson for the Sanaa forces, Yahya Saree, had announced the downing of the drone. In a statement, he said, “In victory for the oppressed Palestinian people and in response to the American-British aggression on our country, the Yemeni Armed Forces’ Air Defense successfully shot down an American MQ-9 drone at dawn this Wednesday while it was carrying out hostile missions in the skies over Marib province.”
He continued, “The Yemeni Armed Forces confirm that the downing of the drone came just days after another drone of the same type was shot down in the skies over Al Bayda province. This is the sixth drone of this type to be downed during the Promised Victory and Sacred Jihad battle in support of the Palestinian people.”
Saree added, “With the help of God Almighty, the Yemeni Armed Forces will continue to develop their defensive capabilities to counter the American-British aggression and all hostile forces, and will continue to achieve victories for the oppressed Palestinian people in Gaza until the aggression stops and the siege is lifted.”

This is the sixth drone of the same type that the Sanaa government forces have claimed to have shot down since the beginning of their “support for Palestine” operations.
Since November last year, the Sanaa government forces have announced targeting Israeli ships and those linked to them in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, before extending their operations to parts of the Indian Ocean. Recently, they announced the beginning of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “up to the Mediterranean Sea” to support the Palestinians in Gaza. They state that their operations against “Israel” will continue until Israel stops the genocide in Gaza and lifts the siege.
In response, the United States and Britain launched airstrikes on Yemen, prompting the Sanaa government forces to declare that their operations would include targeting American and British commercial and military ships in response to what they call the “American-British aggression.”
On February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation named “Aspides,” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced the launch of an operation named “Guardian of Prosperity,” both aimed at countering the attacks by the Sanaa forces against “Israel.”
