Media outlets have published images claimed to be shown for the first time of an American ship targeted by Sanaa government forces in the Gulf of Aden.
The images reveal the extent of damage to the American ship TRUE CONFIDENCE, which was targeted by Sanaa forces on March 6.
The photos show that the ship sustained significant damage due to the attack and the ensuing fire.
In a statement broadcast by its spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree in March, Sanaa forces announced that: “The naval forces of the Yemeni armed forces targeted the American ship (TRUE CONFIDENCE) in the Gulf of Aden with several appropriate naval missiles, achieving precise hits, which caused a fire onboard,” noting that the operation was carried out “in support of the Palestinian cause and in response to American and British aggression against our country.”
It was clarified at the time that the attack came “after the ship’s crew ignored warning messages from the Yemeni naval forces.”
Since late last year, Sanaa government forces have been announcing strikes on Israeli targets in the occupied Palestinian territories and targeting Israeli and related ships in the Red and Arabian seas, before declaring the extension of their operations to parts of the Indian Ocean. Recently, they announced the beginning of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “even to the Mediterranean Sea” to support Palestinians in Gaza. They asserted that their operations against “Israel” would continue, demanding the “end of the aggression and the lifting of the siege on Gaza” to halt their military operations “supporting Gaza.”
In response, the US and the UK launched airstrikes on Yemen, prompting Sanaa government forces to declare that their operations would include targeting American and British commercial and military ships in response to what they called “American and British aggression.”
On February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation named “Aspides,” led by Italy in the Red Sea. The United States announced the launch of an operation named “Guardian of Prosperity,” both aiming to counter the attacks launched by Sanaa government forces against “Israel.”
