The Greek news site “iEidiseis” has published what it describes as “shocking” testimonies from the crew of the Greek frigate “Hydra,” which withdrew from the Red Sea. The crew members likened their return to coming “from hell,” and called the mission suicidal.
In its report, the Greek site states that the “Hydra” frigate in withdrawal was like “a blind vessel in the Red Sea, with the crew unable to counter the advanced weapon systems possessed by the Yemenis.” It added, “The situation reached a point where the Hydra crew fired at stars, mistaking them for drones launched from Yemen.”
The report continues, “In one incident, a Yemeni missile exploded near the ‘Hydra’ frigate while it was escorting a commercial ship in the Gulf of Aden, causing large waves and strong tremors on the frigate.” It also notes that “after the missile explosion near the frigate in the Gulf of Aden, which caused large waves and strong tremors, ten crew members requested to be returned immediately to their homeland.”
The report confirms that the “Hydra” frigate was unable to counter the Yemeni drones that were continuously flying over it, and as a result, British forces attempted to shoot them down with their weapons.
Greece announced at the beginning of June that the “Hydra” frigate had left the Red Sea after participating for three months in Operation “Aspides,” launched by the European Union to counter attacks by Sana’a government forces on Israeli navigation and related activities.
Western reports at the time indicated that the withdrawal of the Greek frigate was due to the failure of its defense systems to counter the missiles and drones of the Sana’a government forces.
