The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced this Wednesday evening that the delegations of the Sana’a and Aden governments have reached an agreement on one of the most contentious issues during their ongoing negotiations in Muscat, Oman.

The UN envoy’s office stated on its official “X” account that: “The ongoing round of negotiations in Oman regarding the detainee issue related to the conflict is being conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere so far,” adding that “the parties have reached an understanding on procedures for the release of detainees related to the conflict, including Mohammed Qahtan.”

The statement continued: “The UN envoy’s office to Yemen emphasizes the importance of completing negotiations on this understanding in a spirit of responsibility to achieve tangible results towards the release of all detainees related to the conflict under the principle of ‘all for all.'”

Grundberg’s office noted that “the current round of negotiations is part of the ongoing UN efforts to support the parties in fulfilling their commitments under the Stockholm Agreement.”
