The Minister of Transport in the Sana’a government, Abdulwahab Al-Durra, revealed arrangements to appoint new leadership for Yemenia Airways, inviting the current leadership affiliated with the Aden government to come to Sana’a and perform their duties “without any conditions.”

In an interview with Qatar’s Al Jazeera, Al-Durra stated that Yemenia Airways is a national carrier owned by the Yemeni people and should not work against the interests of the Yemeni people or be used by what he called the “forces of aggression against Yemen.” He emphasized that company officials should be from all Yemeni provinces, not just one region as is currently the case.

According to Al Jazeera Net, the minister denied accusations that they had hijacked three Yemenia Airways planes and detained them at Sana’a International Airport since last week. These planes were transporting Yemeni pilgrims from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, after performing the Hajj pilgrimage.

He stressed that the main headquarters of Yemenia Airways is in Sana’a and that it has the right to keep the planes at the airport for maintenance and flight scheduling. He noted that the headquarters is responsible for paying the salaries and wages of all employees, hosts, and managers both inside and outside Yemen.

Al-Durra disclosed that they are in the process of selecting new leadership for Yemenia Airways from the company’s employees and invited the current leadership to come to Sana’a to perform their duties without any conditions. He affirmed that the Sana’a government is determined to open and operate all airports in Yemen, foremost among them Sana’a International Airport.
