American Newspaper: Russia Might Arm Houthis in Yemen with Advanced Missiles

NYN | News

The American newspaper “The Wall Street Journal” reported that U.S. intelligence agencies have “warned” that Russia might arm the Government of Sanaa forces, or the so-called “Houthi militias” in Yemen, with advanced anti-ship missiles in response to the Biden administration’s support for Ukrainian strikes inside Russia with American weapons.

The newspaper added that “the new intelligence information coincides with a recent warning from the top U.S. military commander in the Middle East in a secret message to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, stating that military operations in the region have failed to deter Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and that a broader approach is needed, according to U.S. officials.”

The American newspaper revealed that “the White House has launched a secret campaign in an attempt to prevent Moscow from delivering missiles to the Iranian-backed Houthis, who have been attacking shipping in the Red Sea for the past eight months in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.”

The newspaper quoted U.S. officials saying that “the U.S. administration has made a diplomatic effort through a third country, not named, to try to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin not to join Iran in supplying the Houthis with weapons.”
