Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, during a call with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, requested Muscat’s mediation with the Houthi movement, “Ansar Allah,” to stop the escalation against Israel. Sisi warned that what he called “exaggeration” in carrying out operations from Yemeni territory against targets in the occupied territories could lead to an explosion of the situation in the region and push towards further regional tension.
During their conversation, which took place the day before yesterday, Sisi discussed with the Sultan what could be done with parties in Iran and Yemen to halt the escalation. He pledged on his part to accelerate diplomatic efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, also affirming that escalation would not be in the interest of any party at all.
He emphasized the need for regional action with international parties to calm the situation, not only because the consequences of escalation would be severe on economic activity, but also because its effects would not be easily contained. Moreover, the region’s countries would incur significant damage from such a war.
According to Egyptian military sources who spoke to “Al-Akhbar,” there is full military alert across all units stationed on the borders to monitor Egyptian airspace, with air defenses directed to shoot down any “foreign objects” entering Egyptian territory, amid concerns about the impact of operations carried out from Yemeni territory towards Israel on civilian aviation.
