On Monday, the Yemeni Government forces in Sana’a announced the downing of an American MQ-9 drone over Dhamar province, marking the tenth such drone shot down since the start of their campaign in support of Gaza.
In a televised statement, the Yemeni military spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said, “Yemeni air defenses succeeded in downing an American MQ-9 drone while it was carrying out hostile missions in Dhamar’s airspace, using a domestically-produced surface-to-air missile.”
Saree added, “This marks the third drone of this type to be downed within a week, and the tenth since the start of the Promised Victory and Sacred Jihad campaign in support of Gaza.”
In closing his statement, Saree affirmed, “The Yemeni Armed Forces, along with the steadfast and fighting Yemeni people, remain committed to victory for the Palestinian people through significant military operations on land and sea. These operations will continue until the aggression ceases and the siege on Gaza is lifted.”
Additionally, on Monday evening, the military media of Sana’a forces released footage showing the downing of the US MQ-9 drone in Dhamar’s airspace.
The footage revealed the tracking and monitoring of the US drone, followed by the moment a domestically-produced surface-to-air missile was launched, striking the drone with precision and causing it to crash. The video also showed the burning wreckage of the drone after it hit the ground.
It’s noteworthy that Sana’a Government forces announced the downing of another MQ-9 drone over Saada province last Tuesday, just 72 hours after shooting down a similar drone over Marib.
