Riyadh: Saudi Security Forces Arrest Yemeni Shura Council Member After Raiding His Home

NYN | News

Saudi authorities today arrested Hamoud Mohammed Al-Ashbi, a member of the Shura Council affiliated with Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, after raiding his home in the capital, Riyadh, to enforce a court ruling issued against him following his previous refusal to serve a prison sentence.

According to consistent sources, the verdict was issued by the Criminal Court in Riyadh in connection with an assault case involving Sheikh Abdulkarim Thael, the Deputy Secretary of the Capital Municipality, which took place several years ago in the Diplomatic Quarter. The sources added that an arrest warrant had been issued against Al-Ashbi several months ago.

The sources also confirmed that Al-Ashbi’s son, Nasr al-Din, had previously been imprisoned and deported in relation to the same case. Meanwhile, several Yemeni leaders, tribal figures, and dignitaries are reportedly seeking to mediatewith the Deputy Secretary of the Capital Municipality to persuade him to drop the charges.

These mediation efforts aim to secure the release of the Shura Council member, amid divided opinions over whether the case can be resolved amicably or if judicial procedures will continue.
