Hadramout witnessed a security escalation that sparked widespread local outrage following actions carried out by forces known as the “Security Support,” backed by the UAE. The province’s tribal alliance described these moves as a direct attack on civilians and the region’s security.
In a strongly worded statement issued Saturday evening, the alliance expressed its categorical rejection of the military operations conducted last Wednesday morning, describing them as “an armed assault on citizens and a blatant violation of Hadramout’s security.”
The statement explained that the military convoys consisted of dozens of armored vehicles loaded with light, medium, and heavy weapons, most of whose personnel came from outside Hadramout and held no legitimate or constitutional authority.
The alliance indicated that these groups carried out “provocative and terrorizing actions against citizens,” firing at passersby without justification, resulting in the injury of three individuals:
Ahmed Saleh Karama Al-Alii
Maqtoof Salmeen Maqtoof Al-Alii
Abboud Saeed Salem Al-Obaidi
The injured were transported to Al-Burj Hospital in Mukalla, where they were reportedly subjected to “brutal assaults, including being beaten with shoes and rifle butts.” Additionally, several passersby were arrested and detained, with some still unaccounted for.
The alliance emphasized that the victims had “no affiliation with any political group,” noting that some were children, and described media coverage from the groups involved as “mere lies to justify their crimes.”
The statement added that this is not the first time these forces have engaged in similar practices, relying on “weak excuses and fabricated information,” and challenged them to accept an impartial investigation to reveal the truth.
The alliance reaffirmed that Hadramout is safe and stable, with Hadrami Elite forces from the local community deployed across the region. It warned that any attempt to bring armed forces from outside the province would be considered “an invasion and an assault on the people of Hadramout.”
Finally, the statement warned the so-called Security Support against “tampering with Hadramout’s security and stability,” holding the entities backing these groups fully responsible for any consequences resulting from these actions.
