Rising Anger in Taiz… Are the Wounded Approaching a Breaking Point?

NYN | News

Protests have intensified in the city of Taiz as dozens of wounded fighters from the internationally recognized government forces staged a sit-in in front of the governorate building to demand rights they say have been neglected for years.

The wounded affirmed that their repeated demands have gone unanswered, noting that the current protest will be a prelude to an open-ended sit-in until their long-delayed rights are fulfilled.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Taiz Wounded Association said that the continued disregard by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government for the demands of the wounded—despite repeated sit-ins and ongoing appeals—has pushed them to escalate their protest actions.

The association added that the wounded have waited a long time without any tangible solutions, and that the time has come to raise their voices against the persistent neglect of their humanitarian and living conditions.

The association explained that the wounded are demanding regular payment of salaries, disbursement of five months of overdue wages, medical evacuation of critical cases for treatment abroad, completion of treatment for those stranded, in addition to fingerprint registration, issuance of official publication notices, financial approval for overdue promotions, and financial reinforcement for those who were not previously included.
