After a Luring Operation and Mysterious Disappearance… Cambodian Police Free Yemeni Citizens

NYN | News

Details have emerged regarding the mysterious disappearance of Yemeni citizens in Cambodia after months of uncertainty, following an announcement by the Yemeni embassy today confirming the success of a security operation carried out by the Cambodian Royal Police that ended their detention by a gang involved in fraud and human trafficking.

The Yemeni Embassy in Malaysia, which is also accredited to Cambodia, stated that Cambodian authorities had freed Yemeni nationals following a security operation, without specifying their number. It noted that they had been held for more than ten months by a gang engaged in fraud and human trafficking.

Adel Bahamid, Yemen’s ambassador to Malaysia and Cambodia, explained that the operation was conducted “with high professionalism,” ensuring the safety of the detainees. He praised the cooperation of the Cambodian Ministry of Interior and its specialized units in tracking down the gang and executing the raid.

He added that the abducted individuals were among the victims of fake recruitment networks that lured young people from several countries with bogus job offers before forcing them to work under coercive conditions. He urged Yemenis to verify any overseas job offers to avoid falling into human-trafficking networks.

Bahamid confirmed that joint efforts between the embassy and Cambodian authorities resulted in securing their release and ensuring their safe return to Yemen.
