Concerns have grown among international relief organizations operating in Taiz following a new incident targeting one of their field teams in Al-Waz’iyah district, west of the governorate.
A team belonging to the international relief and development agency IDRA was attacked by armed assailants, resulting in the theft of equipment and work-related documents, in addition to cash.
According to local sources, an armed gang intercepted the team while it was carrying out its duties in the Al-Hadharah area. The attackers looted field-survey devices, project documents, and the funds the team was carrying before fleeing toward nearby mountainous areas.
The sources described the incident as part of an increasing series of assaults targeting aid teams in areas controlled by Presidential Leadership Council member Tariq Saleh, who is backed by the UAE—raising concerns among organizations operating there.
Following the attack, IDRA filed an official complaint with the Al-Waz’iyah security department, demanding the swift arrest of those involved and the implementation of necessary measures to ensure the protection of humanitarian workers.
The organization also warned that the continuation of such assaults will hinder the delivery of aid and further worsen the suffering of local residents.
