The Fastest Release in History… A Security Farce Sparks Activists’ Anger

NYN | News

Security authorities in the city of Taiz released Hamza Fadel, the brother of Khaled Fadel, commander of the Taiz Axis under the coalition-backed Presidential Leadership Council, on Thursday — less than 24 hours after he was detained in the city’s central prison.

The Taiz Security Committee had vowed to arrest all wanted individuals to enforce security, regardless of the positions of those who support them. The announcement of Hamza Fadel’s arrest on charges related to murder cases, thuggery, and assaults against citizens was considered by some officials to be a major achievement.

However, the rapid release decision sparked a wave of sarcasm and criticism among social media activists, who described the incident as a “theatrical performance,” condemning the stark contrast between the Security Committee’s promises and what actually took place on the ground.

The file of wanted individuals in Taiz remains complicated due to the protection some of them receive from military and security leaders. This makes the enforcement of security decisions far more difficult, while the public waits to see the next steps the Security Committee will take — and whether it can uphold the law in a balanced and transparent manner.
