The Yemeni Parliament in Sana’a today made direct accusations against the Saudi-Emirati-led coalition, holding it “fully responsible” for the massive destruction of infrastructure and public and governmental facilities in Yemen. The parliament called on the Sana’a government to urgently present the compensation file to the United Nations and international human rights organizations.
The council confirmed that the coalition had failed to adhere to international law or its humanitarian commitments, resulting in the deprivation of citizens from basic services and worsening the humanitarian situation due to the destruction of hospitals, schools, and roads.
The council also urged the Sana’a government to pressure the international community to force the coalition to “rebuild all destroyed facilities since 2015 and pay immediate financial compensation for the human and material losses caused by its airstrikes.” It emphasized that the systematic destruction of government and service complexes was part of a deliberate policy aimed at paralyzing the state’s ability to provide even the minimum services to its citizens.
Since the start of the military intervention by the Saudi-Emirati-led coalition in 2015, Yemen has witnessed widespread destruction of its infrastructure and a sharp economic decline, especially in areas under the control of the internationally recognized government. The exchange rate has reached 2317 riyals to the dollar, significantly increasing poverty levels.
