Special Warning for Those Traveling to Sana’a

NYN | News

The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning issued urgent alerts today regarding the cold weather affecting the mountainous highlands and several Yemeni regions. The center called on citizens—especially those traveling to colder areas—to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from cold shocks and safeguard their health against sharp temperature drops, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours.

Mountainous Highlands

The governorates of Saada, Amran, Sana’a, Dhamar, Al-Bayda, western Al-Jawf, Marib, and the highlands of Ibb, Al-Dhalea, Lahj, and Abyan are experiencing cold to very cold conditions at night and dawn, with the possibility of frost forming in many areas.

Cold weather is also expected in the highlands of Hadramout, Shabwah, Taiz, Raymah, Al-Mahwit, and Hajjah, with patches of low clouds likely to appear over the southwestern mountain range in the afternoon.

Coastal Areas

Coastal regions will see generally clear to partly cloudy weather, while winds are expected to strengthen at times around the Socotra Archipelago, the western coast, and the Bab al-Mandab strait.

Desert Areas

Clear and cold weather will prevail during nighttime and early morning hours, with light to moderate winds occasionally stirring dust and sand.

Alerts and Warnings

The National Center for Meteorology warned of a severe cold wave, calling for the following:

  • Protecting the elderly, children, patients, and night or early-morning workers from the effects of the cold.

  • Advising farmers to take necessary measures to protect their crops from frost-related damage.

  • Alerting travelers heading to cold areas to wear heavy clothing and take suitable precautions to avoid cold shocks.
