UN Secretary-General António Guterres today called on the leaders of the G20 to use their international influence to bring peace to Yemen and other conflict zones around the world.
Guterres affirmed that the world faces a decisive choice: peace grounded in international law, stressing the importance of ending conflicts that have caused immense suffering to humanity.
He pointed out that wars and climate crises have directly contributed to worsening humanitarian emergencies, urging the international community to take immediate action to end this suffering and protect civilians.
Guterres added that the G20 has the capacity to significantly influence the course of conflicts, calling for this leverage to be used to end armed disputes—foremost among them the crisis in Yemen—and to work toward restoring stability and achieving sustainable development in affected regions.
