Earthquakes continue to strike several Yemeni governorates, raising concerns among residents about the increasing seismic activity in the region. On Friday, February 28, 2025, the Earthquake and Volcano Study Center recorded a mild tremor west of Yemen, with a magnitude of 2.5 on the Richter scale. The tremor occurred at 3:28 PM, about 9 kilometers northwest of Zabid in the Al Hudaydah governorate. This follows a series of light tremors in the area over the past few days, including one on Tuesday, which measured 2.0 on the Richter scale, 14 kilometers northeast of Zabid at 9:00 PM. Prior to that, another tremor of 2.4 magnitude occurred at 7:55 PM on Tuesday, 13 kilometers southeast of Zabid. In related developments, geological experts have warned of the possibility of a major earthquake that could affect several countries, including Yemen, due to geological changes resulting from the impact of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. They pointed out that the increasing hydrological pressure on the geological faults in the region could lead to unprecedented seismic activity in the near future.
