A Sudden Cold Snap Approaches… Nighttime Temperatures to Drop to Freezing

NYN | News

Recent weather updates indicate the arrival of a widespread cold wave that will affect several Yemeni governorates in the coming hours, amid ongoing warnings from the National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning urging the public to prepare for sharply dropping nighttime temperatures.

According to the bulletin issued by the center, mountainous governorates such as Saada, Amran, Sanaa, Dhamar, Al-Bayda, in addition to the highlands of Al-Dhalea, Lahj, Abyan, Ibb, western Al-Jawf, and southern Marib, are expected to record temperatures ranging between 0°C and 4°C, with the possibility of frost forming in parts of these areas.

The highlands of Hadramout, Shabwa, Taiz, Raymah, Al-Mahwit, and Hajjah are also expected to experience cold weather, though less severe than in the higher-altitude regions.

The center urged residents in mountain areas to exercise caution during nighttime and early morning hours—especially the elderly, children, the sick, and outdoor workers—emphasizing the need to take necessary precautions against extreme cold.

It also issued advisories for farmers to protect their crops from damage caused by the sharp temperature drop and advised travelers and visitors heading to cold regions to be well-prepared to avoid cold shock.
