Surprise for the Fourth Time: Al-Qaeda Executes Airstrike Against the Southern Transitional Council

NYN | News

Al-Qaeda continues its airstrikes on forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council in southern Yemen. On Wednesday, an airstrike targeted a military vehicle belonging to the UAE-backed “Security Belt Forces” in the Mudiya district, east of Abyan governorate.

According to media sources, Al-Qaeda targeted a military vehicle with a drone in the Al-Hamima area east of Mudiya, resulting in injuries among the Transitional Council forces, although the extent of the damage and the number of casualties have not been disclosed.

This airstrike marks the fourth of its kind since the deployment of the “National Shield” forces in the Mudiya and Lawder districts.

The attack comes at a sensitive time after Al-Qaeda members managed to obtain a shipment of drones, following their capture of a truck loaded with these drones in an armed ambush near the Al-Wadiah border crossing in December 2022. This raised accusations against southern leadership figures of supplying the group with drones, as well as allegations of collusion with leaders of the Islah Party in Marib.
