An Israeli senior security official revealed in exclusive statements to Israeli Channel 12 the serious repercussions of the maritime blockade imposed by the Houthi group (Ansar Allah) in Yemen on Israel, describing it as the most urgent threat, despite occasionally being overlooked.
The official, who remained anonymous, confirmed that the Houthis have successfully implemented an invisible maritime blockade on Israel in recent times, causing significant damage to the Israeli economy. He pointed out that the impact of this blockade has gone beyond the economic realm to become a key pressure factor in the ongoing detainee exchange negotiations between the two sides, referring to the talks currently taking place in Qatar between Israel and Hamas.
He added: “The Houthis threaten and act, and what we’ve seen from their recent escalation confirms that their threats are serious. If Israel becomes more aggressive, they will immediately retaliate,” warning that the continued blockade could exacerbate existing crises.
According to the official, Israel is significantly impacted by the blockade, even though it is not publicly visible. The blockade has hindered commercial shipping and raised shipping costs, which has negatively affected vital sectors.
This statement follows the announcement by Sana’a forces to resume their military operations against Israeli ships due to Israel’s refusal to allow humanitarian aid, including food and medicine, to reach Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
