Unjustified Bombing: When the Camera Becomes a Military Target

NYN | News

Yemen Al-Jadeed News issued an official statement on Monday condemning the Israeli airstrike that targeted the Radio and Television building, resulting in its complete destruction. The attack was described as “an unjustified act of aggression and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.”

The statement stressed that this assault not only infringes on press freedom but also constitutes a full-fledged war crime against journalists and media workers, as well as an attack on the fundamental right of people to access truth and information.

Yemen Al-Jadeed News stated that this Israeli escalation is part of a systematic policy aimed at erasing alternative narratives and silencing the free voices reporting facts from the heart of the conflict.

The statement warned that the international community’s silence in the face of such crimes encourages their repetition and undermines the global justice system. It called on Arab and international media institutions, as well as organizations concerned with press freedom and human rights, to take a clear and firm stance in condemning this targeting and to express solidarity with journalists who are being attacked solely for fulfilling their professional and humanitarian duties.

The site also called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities in pursuing those responsible for these violations and to provide full protection for journalists and media institutions in conflict zones, in accordance with relevant international laws and treaties.

Full Statement:

We at Yemen Al-Jadeed News express our strong condemnation of the direct Israeli targeting of the Iranian Radio and Television building on the afternoon of Monday, June 16, 2025, which resulted in its complete destruction. This unjustified act of aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of the most basic principles of international humanitarian law and of the norms that prohibit targeting civilian facilities—particularly media institutions.

This attack not only undermines press freedom but also represents a fully qualified war crime against journalists and media professionals, and against the right of people to access truth and information. It exposes the falsehoods in Netanyahu’s claims that the airstrikes on Iran were solely aimed at the nuclear program and missile destruction.

This escalation is part of a deliberate policy to suppress alternative narratives and silence the free voices reporting events from the ground.

Yemen Al-Jadeed News warns that silence in the face of such crimes encourages their repetition and further erodes what remains of the international justice system, which is supposed to protect civilians and safeguard freedom of expression.

We call on all Arab and international media institutions, as well as organizations concerned with press freedom and human rights, to take a clear and unequivocal stance in condemning this attack and to declare their solidarity with the journalists targeted simply for fulfilling their professional and humanitarian duties.

We also urge the international community to bear its legal and moral responsibilities in stopping these violations, prosecuting those responsible in the appropriate international forums, and ensuring full protection for journalists and media institutions operating in conflict zones.
