Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that a final draft of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran has been agreed upon, in a move that could pave the way for ending the recent military escalation in the region.
In a post published on the social media platform X, Sharif stated that Pakistan had successfully narrowed the differences between the two sides through intensive mediation efforts. He added that work is currently underway in coordination with both parties to complete the final procedures and steps required for the agreement’s formal approval.
Sharif also said that certain actors continue to conduct what he described as disinformation campaigns aimed at obstructing the peace process, stressing that the prospects for reaching a comprehensive settlement are now closer than ever.
Intensive Mediation Efforts
The Pakistani prime minister explained that his country had played a pivotal role in advancing the negotiations toward their final stages, emphasizing ongoing coordination with Washington and Tehran to finalize the anticipated agreement.
He noted that the current atmosphere reflects significant progress in de-escalation efforts, with increasing indications that the period of heightened tensions—which has raised widespread regional and international concerns in recent months—may soon come to an end.
Tehran Confirms Agreement Is Near
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the memorandum of understanding concerning the cessation of military operations against Iran is “closer than ever” to receiving final approval.
Araghchi urged media outlets to refrain from reporting on or speculating about the contents of the agreement before its official announcement, noting that all details will be released to the public once the remaining procedures are completed and the document is formally adopted.
Regional and International Anticipation
These developments come amid widespread regional and international anticipation regarding the outcome of Pakistan’s mediation efforts. There is growing hope that the expected agreement will help contain tensions and open a new chapter of political and diplomatic dialogue between Washington and Tehran, contributing positively to the security and stability of the region.
