The U.S. Navy announced on Wednesday the launch of extensive search and rescue operations in the Arabian Sea following the crash of an MH-60S Sea Hawk military helicopter during an operational mission, which left one crew member missing, according to CNN.

Intensive Search Operations to Find the Missing Crew Member

The U.S. Navy stated that naval and air rescue teams are continuing their intensive efforts to locate the crew member who remains missing after the incident, confirming that sweeping operations are being conducted on a large scale in the vicinity of the crash site.

According to a statement issued by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the helicopter was conducting field missions from the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, which is deployed in the region, before experiencing what military authorities described as a “forced water landing.”

Three Crew Members Rescued

The statement explained that the rapid response of the rescue teams resulted in the recovery and safe evacuation of three out of the four crew members, while the fate of the fourth individual remains unknown so far.

The U.S. Navy confirmed that logistical and operational efforts were mobilized immediately following the incident, utilizing multiple naval and air assets to support the search and rescue operations.

Investigations Ongoing to Determine the Causes of the Crash

Regarding the causes of the incident, the U.S. Command indicated that preliminary indicators do not support the hypothesis of the helicopter being targeted or subjected to any hostile action, suggesting instead that the crash was likely caused by technical or operational factors that have not yet been determined.

It added that specialized investigative committees have begun their work to uncover the circumstances of the incident and determine the causes that led to the helicopter crashing into the waters of the Arabian Sea, coinciding with the ongoing search operations for the missing personnel.

The incident comes at a time when the region is witnessing intensive military activity by U.S. forces, amid close monitoring of the progress of the rescue operations and ongoing investigations.
