Hebrew Media: Coalition’s Failure in Yemen Directly Impacted Israel’s Security and Closed Eilat Port

A "Ynet" report links the war on Yemen to the partnership with the Coalition, considering the Gulf as Israel's first line of defense against Red Sea threats

The Hebrew website Ynet acknowledged that the war launched by the Saudi and UAE-led coalition against Yemen nearly a decade ago came within the context of a close partnership with Israel, noting that the repercussions of that war directly impacted Israeli security after its objectives failed.

The website, the online arm of the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, explained that Israel views Saudi Arabia, the Gulf states, and the normalizing countries as a forward front to protect its security in light of escalating regional threats.

The Coalition’s Failure in Yemen Reflects on Israel

According to the report, what it described as “Saudi paralysis” in the face of Iran and the Houthi group has led to a widening scope of threats facing Israel. It noted that Israeli settlements have become targets of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones launched from multiple regional fronts.

The website added that the Coalition’s failure to curb the Houthis’ capabilities has directly reflected on navigation in the Red Sea, pointing out that the Port of Eilat has been significantly affected as a result of military operations linked to the Yemeni crisis.

Israeli Criticism of Mohammed bin Salman

In a related context, the report leveled criticism at Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, suggesting that stricter “red lines” should have been established regarding the Yemeni file to avoid the repercussions that later reflected on Israel, whether on the level of security or maritime traffic.

Ongoing Regional Repercussions

This Israeli assessment comes at a time when the repercussions of the war in Yemen continue to cast a shadow over the regional scene, especially with the ongoing tension in the Red Sea and rising Israeli concerns over the impact of Yemeni developments on maritime and economic security, amid the continued targeting of Israel-linked shipping over the past period.
