The American website Axios has revealed intensive regional diplomatic movements led by several countries, foremost among them Qatar and Pakistan, aimed at containing the growing escalation between the United States and Iran. The efforts seek to prevent the collapse of the existing understanding between the two sides amid tensions that followed recent U.S. strikes on targets inside Iran.

The report explained that these efforts come within the framework of endeavors to bring both parties back to the negotiating table and prevent the region from sliding into a broad military confrontation that could threaten regional security and stability, as well as impact international shipping and energy supplies.

The Trump Administration Focuses on Reopening the Strait of Hormuz

According to Axios, U.S. President Donald Trump, despite announcing the end of the memorandum of understanding and the ceasefire, and ordering rounds of airstrikes against Iran, still prefers to avoid the outbreak of an all-out war with Tehran.

The report pointed out that the U.S. administration considers reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring the continuity of maritime navigation a strategic priority, alongside preventing the current crisis from turning into a long-term conflict that could impose significant security and economic burdens on the United States and its allies.

Regional Mediation and Intensive Contacts

The website added that Qatar and Pakistan, along with Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, have intensified their contacts over the past few days with officials in Washington and Tehran in an attempt to lower the level of tension and pave the way for resuming a new round of technical talks related to the nuclear deal.

According to the report, these mediations seek to keep communication channels open between the two sides and prevent the collapse of the diplomatic track, which had witnessed progress in the recent period.

Iran: U.S. Strikes Violated the Understanding

In the same context, Axios reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi informed the Chief of the Pakistani Army that the recent U.S. strikes, along with the statements issued by Washington, represent a clear violation of the memorandum of understanding concluded between the two countries.

Despite this, mediating parties affirm the continuation of their efforts to rebuild trust between the two sides, amid assessments that the success of the mediation will depend on the ability of Washington and Tehran to contain the military escalation and return to the negotiation track in the coming period.
