A Hebrew media report has revealed a widening gap between the official narrative of the Israeli army regarding its control over southern Lebanon and the on-the-ground reality, which shows continued activity by Hezbollah and an escalation in its rocket operations—undermining claims of consolidating a “security belt.”
According to the military affairs correspondent of the Hebrew newspaper Makor Rishon, Yaakov Lappin, citing security sources, field conditions since the ceasefire came into effect on April 16 have retained a clearly combative nature. Israeli forces remain in a defensive posture, while Hezbollah continues to maintain a presence and infrastructure in contact zones, including areas described by Israel as the “security zone.”
Notable Escalation in Rocket Attacks
The report indicated a marked increase in the pace of rocket launches from Lebanese territory in recent days. Around one-third of these attacks targeted settlements, while the majority were directed at military positions—reflecting a high level of operational engagement and the broad deployment of Hezbollah fighters on the ground.
Wide Geographic Spread of Attacks
Data shows that the rocket attacks were geographically distributed both north and south of the Litani River. Approximately half originated from the north of the river, while the other half were launched from the south, including areas close to the southern suburbs of Beirut—indicating operational reach across a wide area.
More Than 4,000 Rockets from South of the Litani
According to the report, the number of rockets launched from south of the Litani alone has exceeded 4,000, highlighting the scale of the field challenges facing Israel in its attempt to impose a new security reality amid Hezbollah’s continued combat effectiveness.

The report concludes that these developments clearly weaken the Israeli narrative of full control over southern Lebanon and confirm that the confrontation environment remains open, with Hezbollah retaining its operational capabilities and continuing to exert direct influence over the course of events on the ground.
