Iran unveiled a new fast attack craft named “27 Rajab” on Saturday evening, in a move that reflects its continued efforts to develop its naval capabilities and strengthen its defense infrastructure despite ongoing regional and international challenges.

The vessel was introduced during a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquartersin Tehran. Iranian media reported that the new naval platform represents a significant addition to the fleet of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The craft is based on a modern trimaran design, which provides a high degree of stability and maneuverability. It is capable of carrying and launching two naval cruise missiles with a range of approximately 700 kilometers, while also being able to conduct combat operations in challenging maritime conditions and waves reaching up to three meters in height.

Advanced Combat Capabilities

According to the announced specifications, the 27 Rajab combines high speed, substantial firepower, and operational flexibility, making it well-suited for rapid offensive missions in complex maritime environments, particularly in strategic areas such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf region.

Military experts note that recent developments in naval warfare have highlighted the growing importance of fast attack craft armed with precision-guided missiles, given their ability to threaten larger and more expensive warships, especially when integrated into advanced command, control, and reconnaissance networks.

Strengthening Iran’s Deterrence Strategy

The unveiling of the new vessel comes as part of Iran’s broader strategy of developing a fleet of multi-role fast attack craft. This fleet includes various models such as Haidar 110, Tareq, Ashura, Zolfaghar, Seraj, Zoljanah, Ya Mahdi, and Azarakhsh.

Tehran maintains that its investments in this category of naval platforms are intended to enhance combat readiness, strengthen deterrence capabilities, and improve rapid-response operations in vital maritime corridors, with a focus on speed, precision, and operational flexibility.

A New Maritime Message

Observers believe that the 27 Rajab represents more than just another military addition. It reflects a growing trend toward adopting modern naval warfare concepts that rely on fast, intelligent, and relatively low-cost units capable of conducting precise and effective operations in contemporary conflict environments.

The unveiling comes as Iran continues to emphasize the development of its domestic defense industries, with particular focus on expanding its naval capabilities in one of the world’s most sensitive and strategically important regions.
