Israeli Airstrikes Hit Military Airbase in Idlib; Syrian TV Describes Them as “of Unknown Origin”
Ambigiuty Surrounding the Executing Party Sparks Debate... Damascus Condemns Israeli Bombing of Abu al-Duhur Airbase, Considering It a Violation of Syrian Sovereignty

NYN | Reports and Analyses
Airstrikes targeting the Abu al-Duhur Military Airbase in northwestern Syria’s Idlib province early Tuesday morning sparked widespread debate, amid conflicting characterizations of the entity behind the attack.
Syria TV reported that the airbase was subjected to aerial bombardment, describing the strikes as “of unknown origin” and noting that precise information regarding the extent of the damage remains unavailable.
Conversely, this characterization drew criticism and questions, particularly as reports circulated attributing the strikes to Israeli aircraft, at a time when the exact nature of the targeted sites and resulting losses have not been officially clarified.
Damascus Condemns Israeli Bombing
For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Damascus condemned the strikes, which it stated were Israeli and targeted the Abu al-Duhur Military Airbase in Idlib.
The ministry described the attack as “unprovoked aggression and a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” warning that the continuation of such strikes represents a dangerous escalation threatening regional security and stability.
Conflicting Positions Raise Questions
The discrepancy between Syria TV’s description of the strikes as being “of unknown origin” and Damascus’s official stance holding Israel responsible raises questions regarding the nature of the political and media divergences surrounding the Syrian issue.
This contradiction also reopens the debate over the degree of political and security decision-making independence in Damascus, given the ongoing regional and international influences shaping events in Syria.
To date, precise details regarding the extent of damage at Abu al-Duhur Airbase remain unclear, and no official Israeli statement has been issued regarding the nature or objectives of the operation.
